For an air track, measure your space first. A 3 m track fits many living rooms and most gardens for rolls, cartwheels and handstands; 4–6 m gives room for a run-up into round-offs. 10 cm thick is the usual all-rounder, while 20 cm adds cushioning for landings. What length air track should I buy?

Match it to your space and the skills you're working on. 3 m suits rolls, cartwheels, bridges and handstands in a typical room. 4 m allows a couple of linked skills, and 5–6 m is for round-off and back handspring sequences with a short run-up. Leave at least a metre of clear floor at each end and on either side.

How thick should a gymnastics air mat be?

10 cm (4 in) is the most popular thickness: firm enough to tumble on and soft enough for practising landings. 15–20 cm tracks give more rebound and cushioning, which helps with jumps and drops but feels less stable for balance work. Most tracks let you adjust the firmness by adding or releasing air with the pump.

Is a home kip bar safe for children?

A kip bar is suitable for supervised practice of skills a child already knows, provided it stands on a flat surface with a mat beneath, is set to the right height and is used within its weight limit. Check the locking pins before every session. New skills such as kips and casts should be taught first by a qualified coach at a British Gymnastics club.

What diameter dance pole should I choose?

45 mm is the most widely used size, so it's a sensible first choice. Dancers with smaller hands sometimes prefer 40 mm. Poles with spinning and static modes let you practise both styles. A pressure-mounted pole needs a solid, level ceiling and floor within its height range, so measure your room and check the ceiling before buying.
