Intrepid International Hock Shield Ultra Protector Large/Extra-Large — Full-Coverage Hock Guard with Front Flap for Movement

The Intrepid International Hock Shield Ultra Protector in Large/Extra-Large is a full-coverage hock guard designed to shield vulnerable hock areas while preserving natural movement.

Engineered for larger horses and replacing prior large and extra-large sizes, this Hock Shield Ultra combines broad coverage with a front flap design that protects both the front and back of the hock. It is intended to stay in place during typical turnout and riding when fitted correctly, making it a practical option for horses prone to hock soreness or rubbing.

How does the Hock Shield Ultra protect the hock without restricting movement?

The product uses a patented shape and flexible front flap that covers the entire hock area while leaving room for joint flexion. The materials and cut allow the horse to walk, trot and extend the hindlimb without binding or chafing.

• Patented design ensures a wide coverage footprint around the hock.
• Front flap protects impact points while permitting natural joint motion.
• Contoured edges reduce bunching and pressure during movement.

Will the Large/Extra-Large size stay in place on bigger horses?

When applied following the fitting guidance, this combined size replaces the former large and extra-large options and is tailored to fit larger equine builds. Proper positioning and secure attachment are key factors in preventing slippage.

• New consolidated size accommodates a wider range of larger breeds.
• Designed to remain stable during normal turnout and light work.
• Correct placement around the hock minimizes rotation or shifting.

What makes this a good solution for horses with hock sores?

The shield provides continuous coverage across both the front and back of the hock, reducing exposure to friction, rubbing and direct impact that can aggravate sores. It acts as a barrier while allowing airflow and movement to support healing and comfort.

• Complete front-and-back coverage protects existing sore areas from further irritation.
• Softly contoured contact surfaces lower hotspots that cause rubbing.
• Easy to fit so you can apply protective padding quickly as needed.

How should I fit and care for the Hock Shield Ultra?

Position the shield to cover the full hock area, align the front flap so it follows the joint line, and secure according to the product’s attachment system. Routine checks for proper fit and any wear will help maintain protection and longevity.

• Place the shield centered over the hock, ensuring the flap covers the front impact zone.
• Check straps or fastenings each use to prevent loosening during activity.
• Inspect for damage and clean according to manufacturer recommendations to preserve materials.
