Katadyn Hiker Pump-Action Water Filter 325 ml — Lightweight Backpacking Microfilter, Field-Cleanable

The Katadyn Hiker is an 11 oz pump-action microfilter that reliably removes sediment and fine particles to produce clearer, drinkable water from streams, lakes and ponds without batteries or chemicals.

Designed for lightweight backpacking and multi-day treks, the Katadyn Hiker combines a compact, hand-pump design with a durable microfilter membrane so you can access safer water across varied backcountry sources. It’s the lighter alternative to the Hiker Pro—streamlined for weight-conscious hikers who need dependable mechanical filtration and field-cleanable maintenance.

How does the Hiker filter outdoor water on the trail?

The Hiker uses a mechanical microfilter membrane to trap sediment and fine particles as you pump water through the unit. Pump pressure forces water across the filter media, producing a steady output without relying on gravity, batteries, or chemicals.

• Microfilter membrane screens out dirt and fine particulates.
• Manual pump creates consistent flow on demand.
• Suitable for streams, ponds, lakes and similar sources.

What kind of maintenance does it need while backpacking?

Maintenance is simple and designed for field use: the filter can be backflushed and cleaned on the trail to restore flow without tools. Routine cleaning keeps output consistent and extends the service life of the membrane.

• Field-cleanable without returning to camp or a workbench.
• No special chemicals—just backflushing and rinsing.
• Clear instructions for quick in-use servicing.

How does the Hiker compare to the Hiker Pro and other options?

The Hiker is lighter because it omits the activated carbon stage found in the Hiker Pro, focusing on mechanical filtration of sediment and particles. If you want reduced weight and straightforward particle filtration, the Hiker delivers; choose the Pro if you need additional taste and odor reduction.

• 11 oz weight ideal for ultralight packs.
• No activated carbon stage—less weight, simpler design.
• Backpacker Magazine–approved for long-distance treks.

What performance should I expect day-to-day on a trip?

The Hiker provides consistent flow from day one and maintains performance with regular field cleaning throughout a trip. Because it’s manually pumped, you control the flow rate and can continue using the filter anywhere you can reach a water source.

• Consistent output when regularly maintained.
• No batteries or external power required.
• Simple operation so any group member can run it.

Who this is for: The Katadyn Hiker is built for backpackers, hikers and campers who prioritize low weight and reliable particle filtration in the backcountry. It’s ideal for long-distance trekkers, minimalist weekenders and anyone who wants a rugged, field-serviceable pump filter from a brand with a long history in water treatment.
