Osprey AirPorter Protector travel backpack cover — Black, lockable zipper & packable duffel

Designed specifically for travelers who check or carry large packs, the AirPorter Protector wraps backpacking, trekking, and hiking packs in a tough shell that reduces abrasion, dirt, and handling wear during taxis, trains, and flights. Built-in grab handles and an improved shoulder strap make short transfers simple, while a wide, lockable zipper keeps the main compartment closed and items inside more secure. Choose Small for packs up to 50 L, Medium for 45–75 L, or Large for 70–110 L depending on your pack size and how snug you prefer the fit.

How does the AirPorter protect my pack during flights and transfers?

The AirPorter creates an outer barrier between your pack and rough handling, shielding fabric and suspension from abrasions, dirt, and scuffs common in checked baggage and transit. Its durable material and reinforced grab points help your pack survive repeated moves through vehicles and conveyor systems.

• Full-coverage design wraps the pack body and shoulder straps.
• Lockable, oversized zipper reduces the chance of accidental opening.
• Top and side grab handles allow careful lifting and controlled placement.
• Heavy-duty fabric resists tearing and surface damage during transit.

Can I use the AirPorter as a carry or duffel alternative?

Yes — when you need extra capacity or a simple carry option, the AirPorter converts into a packable duffel, letting you tote overflow gear or move a checked pack more like luggage. The improved shoulder strap and grab handles give multiple carry configurations for short hauls through terminals.

• Wide opening for easy loading into and out of the cover.
• Shoulder strap designed for left or right-side use for balanced lifting.
• Compact when empty — folds down to store in a pack or suitcase.

What size should I pick for my backpack?

Measure your pack’s stated volume and check dimensions to match Osprey’s size guidance: Small fits up to 50 liters, Medium fits 45–75 liters, and Large fits 70–110 liters. If your pack has a bulky frame or external pockets, select the next size up for a comfortable fit without compressing gear.

• Small: fits packs up to 50 L—best for minimalist backpacks and daypack-plus setups.
• Medium: fits 45–75 L—ideal for typical multi-day backpacks.
• Large: fits 70–110 L—for expedition packs and heavily loaded setups.

How secure and convenient is the zipper and handle system?

The AirPorter uses an oversized, lockable zipper to give fast access and improved security while checked or in transit. Multiple grab handles and an improved shoulder strap let you lift and move a covered pack more easily and intentionally at curbside, in vehicles, or through terminals.

• Large lockable zipper opening for quick loading and an added deterrent to casual tampering.
• Top and side grab handles for stable two-person or single-person lifts.
• Improved shoulder strap function for balanced carrying short distances.

It's tailored to people who value durability and practicality—especially those checking packs at airports, loading gear into buses or taxis, or packing expedition-sized backpacks that require an extra layer of protection.
