SHIMANO Ultegra R8000 11-Speed Road Cassette 11-32 — nickel-plated steel cogs, aluminium carrier

SHIMANO Ultegra R8000 Cassette is a lightweight, precision-machined 11-speed road cassette engineered for smooth shifting and durable performance across the 11-32 gear range.

The Ultegra CS-R8000 is Shimano's high-performance 11-speed cassette designed to balance weight, durability and consistent gear transitions. Built with nickel-plated steel cogs and an aluminum carrier, it delivers the reliable indexing and shifting feel road riders expect from Ultegra-level components. Multiple sprocket range options accommodate racers and endurance cyclists who want crisp shifts and an efficient gear spread.

How does this cassette improve shifting on the road?

The R8000 cassette features precision-cut teeth and a carrier-based construction that preserve chain engagement under load, producing quick, accurate shifts. Nickel plating reduces wear while maintaining low friction during gear changes.

• Nickel-plated steel cogs for consistent tooth profile and longevity
• Aluminum carrier reduces rotational mass for faster acceleration
• Optimized sprocket spacing for precise 11-speed indexing

Which cog ranges and weights are available, and why do they matter?

R8000 comes in several cassette sprocket layouts to suit different riding styles, from tight race ratios to wider endurance ranges for climbing. Each option carries a stated weight that helps you match component mass to your bike and performance goals.

• 11x25: claimed 232 g — favors close ratios for racing
• 11x28: claimed 251 g — a versatile race/ride choice
• 11x30: claimed 269 g — offers extra climbing range
• 12x25 and 14x28 options available for alternate gear steps

What materials and compatibility should I check before buying?

The cassette uses nickel-plated steel cogs mounted to an aluminum carrier, giving a balance of wear resistance and reduced weight. It's intended for Shimano 11-speed road freehubs; confirm your hub and derailleur compatibility before installation.

• Cog material: nickel-plated steel for durability
• Carrier: aluminum to cut rotational mass
• Freehub: fits Shimano 11-speed road freehub bodies

How easy is installation and maintenance?

Installation follows the same procedure as other Shimano cassettes: slide onto the freehub, torque the lockring to spec and verify indexing with your rear derailleur. Routine cleaning and proper chain maintenance extend cog life and sustain shift quality.

• Fits standard Shimano 11-speed road freehub bodies
• Clean with degreaser, light brush, and re-lubricate chain regularly
• Replace together with chain when wear limits are reached

Who is this for? Cyclists seeking a high-value, performance-oriented 11-speed cassette will appreciate the Ultegra R8000: racers who want tight gear steps, sportive riders who need reliable shifts, and commuters or club riders who want durable materials without the premium price of top-tier models. Check your freehub compatibility and desired gear spread, then choose the sprocket range that best matches your riding terrain and cadence preferences.
