Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol Small Camping & Backpacking Sleeping Pad, Blue/Silver — Foldable with ThermaCapture Reflective Insulation

Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol Small is a foldable, closed-cell foam sleeping pad with reflective ThermaCapture coating that boosts warmth and packs down small for backpacking and camping.

Designed for hikers, climbers and minimal campers who prioritize light weight and dependable insulation, this compact foam pad combines a classic accordion fold with a heat-reflective surface. At 20 x 51 inches and weighing about 10 ounces, the Small Z Lite Sol balances portability with enough cushioning and R-Value 2.0 insulation to improve overnight comfort on cold ground. Its two-density foam construction — softer on top, firmer underneath — helps protect against rocks while providing a comfortable sleeping surface.

How does the reflective ThermaCapture coating help on chilly nights?

The reflective layer redirects radiant body heat back toward you, increasing the pad’s effective warmth by roughly 20 percent without adding bulk. This is especially useful when temperatures drop but you want to avoid heavier insulated pads.

• Reflective ThermaCapture layer conserves radiant heat
• R-Value 2.0 provides reliable insulation for three-season use
• Heat-trapping dimples improve warmth retention at contact points

Is the Z Lite Sol easy to carry and pack for backpacking?

The pad’s accordion, Z-fold design collapses flat and slips into or onto a pack quickly. At roughly 10 ounces for the Small size and with a slim folded profile, it’s a top choice for weight-conscious treks and multi-day routes.

• Small folded dimensions about 20 x 4 x 5.5 inches
• Lightweight closed-cell foam construction (10 oz Small)
• Folds compactly around gear or strapped to external pack loops

What kind of durability and ground protection does this pad provide?

The dual-density foam is firmer on the underside to resist abrasion, punctures and compression from rocks, while the softer top layer adds cushioned comfort. Closed-cell foam won’t absorb moisture and holds up well to repeated use, making the pad a long-lasting shelter-floor solution.

• Denser bottom layer shields against sharp terrain and wear
• Closed-cell foam repels water and dries quickly
• Simple, no-inflation design reduces puncture risk and maintenance

Can I use the Z Lite Sol with other pads or as a standalone mattress?

Yes — minimalists often use it alone for lightweight setups, while others layer it under an air mattress or thicker pad to boost insulation and extend comfort. It pairs well with ultralight sleeping systems when extra warmth or ground protection is needed.

• Effective solo pad for lightweight sleeping setups
• Works as an insulating base under air pads or inflatable mattresses
• Compatible with bivy sacks, tents and lean-to shelters
