Gaiam Essentials Thick Yoga Mat — 10mm Red NBR Foam with Carry Strap, Extra Cushioning

Built from high-density NBR foam, this red Gaiam Essentials mat measures 72" long by 24" wide and 2/5" (10mm) thick. It balances plush comfort with a textured surface for traction on most hard floors, rolls up for compact storage, and includes an adjustable easy-cinch strap for carrying between rooms or to class. At about 3.11 pounds, it’s portable without sacrificing padding for floor-based movements.

How does the 10mm thickness affect comfort and stability?

The 10mm foam provides noticeably softer cushioning that reduces pressure on knees, hips, and other contact points during seated poses, restorative work, or floor exercises. It emphasizes impact absorption and comfort rather than a firm, studio-style balance.

• 10mm (2/5") high-density NBR foam for plush joint protection
• Extra padding for low-impact yoga, Pilates, and stretching
• Suitable for hard surfaces like wood, tile, and concrete

Will the surface keep me from slipping during a session?

The mat’s textured NBR foam surface is designed to reduce slipping during dry workouts on most hard floors. It offers a gentle grip that helps control movement for basic and restorative exercises, though it performs best without excess moisture.

• Textured finish improves traction for everyday routines
• Works well for floor-based and low-intensity sessions
• Wipe-clean surface—avoid overly sweaty conditions for best grip

How do I clean and store the mat?

Gaiam’s NBR foam is low-odor and requires minimal care: wipe with a damp cloth after use. New mats may have a mild initial scent that typically fades after airing for one to two days. The mat rolls up compactly and the included adjustable strap keeps it secured for storage and transport.

• Wipe clean with a damp cloth; air out to dissipate initial foam scent
• Rolls compactly for small-space storage
• Adjustable easy-cinch carrying strap included for portability

What routines and users is this mat best suited for?

This mat is tuned to comfort-first practices and is especially helpful for anyone prioritizing cushioning over firm balance. It’s popular for gentle or restorative yoga, Pilates, physical-therapy-style exercises, and general home fitness where padding and joint comfort matter.

• Ideal for beginners and low-impact practitioners
• Good choice for floor workouts, stretching, and therapy work
• Lightweight enough to carry to classes or move between rooms

Who is this for? If you want a soft, extra-thick mat to make floor work more comfortable—especially on hard surfaces—this Gaiam Essentials 10mm mat in red is a straightforward, budget-friendly option. It’s tailored to users seeking cushioning and ease of use rather than the firmer, studio-style feel required for advanced balancing poses.
