Katadyn BeFree Gravity Water Filter 6L — Collapsible Gravity Filter, 0.1µm EZ-Clean

The Katadyn BeFree Gravity 6L is a hands-free, collapsible gravity water filter that delivers clean, drinkable water for small groups and family camps without pumps or power.

Designed to simplify off-grid hydration, the BeFree Gravity 6L pairs a lightweight 6-liter soft flask with a 0.1 micron EZ-Clean hollow fiber membrane so you can fill from lakes, streams, or taps and let gravity do the work. Its flat-packing bag and quick-hang loop make setup fast at base camp, while the filter’s simple shake-clean maintenance keeps flow high without tools. Built for camping, car-camping, and emergency water needs, the system balances capacity, speed, and packability for 3–5 people.

How do I set up the BeFree Gravity 6L at camp?

Setup takes seconds — fill the 6L bag, secure the hanger, and suspend it above your collection point. Gravity forces water through the EZ-Clean filter into a pot, container, or directly into bottles for drinking and cooking.

• Fill the soft flask from a water source and close the cap.
• Use the integrated hang loop on a branch, pole, or tripod about 1–2 meters high.
• Connect the filter and route the outlet to your receiving container or bottle.
• Allow gravity to produce up to 2 L/min flow depending on height and source clarity.

What does the filter remove and how fast does it work?

The BeFree Gravity uses a 0.1 micron hollow fiber membrane that reduces sediment and very fine particles for clearer water suitable for drinking and cooking. Flow rates reach as much as 2 liters per minute in ideal conditions for quick refills.

• 0.1 micron EZ-Clean hollow fiber membrane for fine-particle filtration.
• Up to approximately 2 L/min depending on head height and turbidity.
• Rated for up to 1,000 liters of use before expected replacement in typical backcountry conditions.
• Suitable for surface water sources like streams, lakes, and rivers.

How do I maintain and clean the filter in the field?

Maintenance is tool-free: restore flow by shaking or swishing the filter in clean water to dislodge buildup. No backflushing pump or disassembly is required, simplifying life on multi-day trips.

• Remove the filter from the bag and agitate in clean water to clear blockages.
• Repeat shaking if flow slows; drying between trips helps prolong life.
• Replace the filter element when performance consistently drops or after the rated capacity.
• All components are BPA-free for safe drinking use.

How much water can it serve and what accessories work with it?

The 6-liter capacity covers cooking and drinking needs for a small group or family, typically 3–5 people depending on daily use. You can pair the system with Katadyn upgrade kits or common bottles to route filtered water directly into personal containers.

• 6 L collapsible bag stores flat when empty and fits easily in a group pack.
• Handles base-camp, car-camp, and emergency reserve situations well.
• Compatible with Katadyn BeFree Gravity Upgrade Kit for bottle routing.
• Ideal as a communal water source for meal prep, rehydration, and cleaning.

Who is this for: The Katadyn BeFree Gravity 6L is made for campers, overlanders, and families who need a simple, reliable way to produce several liters of filtered water without pumping. It’s especially useful for base-camp setups, small groups on multi-day trips, and anyone wanting an easy-to-store backup water solution that minimizes weight and fuss while delivering clear drinking water.
