Osprey AirPorter Protector backpack travel cover — Black, lockable full-coverage with duffel conversion

The Osprey AirPorter Protector is a lockable, travel-ready cover that shields backpacks in transit and converts into a packable duffel for extra carrying flexibility.

Designed for backpackers, trekkers and frequent flyers, the AirPorter Protector keeps a packed pack safe from scuffs, dirt and handling while you move between taxis, trains and planes. Constructed with heavy-duty materials, a large lockable zipper and multiple grab points, it simplifies checking or stowing a full backpack and offers three size ranges to match most pack volumes.

How does the AirPorter protect my backpack during flights and transit?

The AirPorter surrounds your backpack in a durable shell that reduces abrasion, prevents straps from catching and limits exposure to dirt and moisture. A reinforced zipper closes the pack fully and can be secured with a travel lock for added peace of mind when checking luggage.

• Heavy-duty fabric resists tearing and abrasion
• Large lockable zipper keeps contents enclosed
• Top and side grab handles reduce dropping and fumbling
• Full-coverage design prevents strap snags and external damage

Which size AirPorter should I choose for my pack?

Osprey offers three size ranges so you can pick the right fit based on your pack's volume. Measure your pack's typical filled volume and compare to the AirPorter ranges to ensure a snug, protective fit that still allows easy packing and access.

• Small: fits packs up to 50 L — best for compact overnight or weekend packs
• Medium: fits packs 45–75 L — ideal for most multi-day backpacks
• Large: fits packs 70–110 L — accommodates expedition or large touring packs

Can I carry the AirPorter like a duffel or use it for extra gear?

Yes—when you need extra space, the AirPorter functions as a packable duffel so you can carry overflow items or souvenirs separately. The improved shoulder strap system and multiple grab handles let you switch between carry modes quickly and comfortably.

• Improved left/right shoulder strap function for ergonomic carry
• Converts to a duffel for additional gear transport
• Multiple grab handles let two people lift or reposition easily
• Lightweight design adds minimal bulk when used as a cover

How easy is it to load, secure and move an AirPorter-covered pack?

Loading is straightforward thanks to a wide, full-length zipper opening that gives clear access to your backpack. Once closed, the zipper can accept a small padlock and the strategically placed grab handles and shoulder strap let you carry your protected pack with control from different angles.

• Large zipper opening makes packing and unpacking fast
• Lock-compatible zipper slider increases security for checked travel
• Top and side handles for stable lifting and maneuvering
• Lightweight 0.83 lb item weight for minimal added mass

It's useful for backpackers departing on international trips, weekend adventurers checking gear, and anyone who needs a temporary duffel solution without adding bulky luggage.
