STAEDTLER Mars Comfort Metal 6" Drafting Compass Set — Universal Adapter, Push-Button Rapid-Set & Case

The STAEDTLER Mars Comfort Metal 6" Compass Set is a quick-setting, metal drafting compass kit built for accurate circles up to about 14.2" diameter, with a universal adapter, spare lead and protective case.

Whether you're drafting classroom problems, technical plans, or artwork, this compass combines a robust metal build with user-friendly adjustment controls. A push-button rapid-setting mechanism pairs with a fine center wheel for precision, while hinged legs and an interchangeable lead/needle system let you maintain steady, parallel positioning across larger radii. The kit arrives organized in a hinged case that keeps the compass, adapter and spare parts ready for study, studio or site work.

How does the quick-setting push button speed up adjustments?

The push-button mechanism lets you open and close the compass rapidly to a coarse radius, then lock that position instantly. After that initial setting, the smaller center wheel provides micro-adjustments for exact radii without overshooting. This two-stage control is ideal for repeated, consistent circles when copying templates or working through sets of drawings.

• Push button for fast coarse radius changes
• Center wheel for precise, incremental tuning
• Stable lock to prevent drift during drawing

What makes the hinged metal legs better for larger circles?

Hinged legs keep the lead and needle roughly parallel, which improves stability and reduces wobble as you draw bigger arcs. The metal construction resists flexing under pressure and holds alignment longer than thin-plastic designs. Together these features help produce smoother, more consistent circles—especially when working near the compass's maximum diameter.

• Hinged joint maintains parallel leg alignment
• Durable metal resists deformation with use
• Reliable control for circles up to ~14.2" diameter

How does the universal adapter increase versatility?

The included universal adapter fits the 4 mm shank so you can mount common writing and drafting instruments instead of only the supplied lead. That lets you switch to colored pencils, technical pens or other marking tools for different line weights and effects. The adapter makes the compass useful across classes, studios and site sketches where different tools are preferred.

• 4 mm shank compatible with many leads and accessories
• Switch between lead, pens, or markers for varied line quality
• Adapter stored in the case for convenient access

What is included and how does the storage case help?

The set contains the 6" metal Mars Comfort compass, an interchangeable lead part, a universal adapter, a spare needle and a small spares box inside a hinged protective case. The case keeps components organized, protects the needle and lead during transport, and helps the compass survive student backpacks, studio bags or travel. Having spares on hand reduces downtime when a tip breaks or a lead is used up.

• 6" Mars Comfort metal compass with push-button and center wheel
• Interchangeable 4 mm lead part plus spare needle
• Universal adapter and a small spares box inside a hinged case
